7 Millions Thais are expected to lose their jobs by June 2020
The Joint Standing Committee on Commerce, Industry and Banking was evaluating COVID-19 impact to Thailand’s employment situation. The committee assess 7.13 millions Thais to be affected by COVID-19. There are total of 38 million registered national social security to date; 18.5% expected to be unemployed.
“Initially SMEs took most of the impact. However, if the situation elongates further, big industries such as Automotive, Electronics and Electrical Appliance, and Export will also join in the aftershock; Resulting in unimaginable unemployment.”, the committee said.
