Netflix Pilots TikTok-Style Feed For Kids
Netflix has started testing Kids Clips, a news feed that displays short clips from its library of children’s content. The Kids Clips resembles TikTok or Instagram Reels interface, highlights child-friendly content in landscape format, and is for the iOS app. The company has not announced plans for an Android version.
Kids Clips is also similar to a recently launched Netflix feature called Fast Laughs, which highlights short comedy clips. Both features are intended to promote Netflix’s content.
TikTok is considered a major Netflix competitor, and could likely be the inspiration for these short clips. The difference is that Kids Clips can only show about 10 to 20 clips, a move that ensures young viewers do not get sucked into watching short clips for hours at a time.
Kids Clips will start featuring in the US, Canada, Australia, Ireland, and Spanish-speaking Latin America.
The move could open doors for more third-party advertising options on the platform.
