E-commerce and technology sector has dominated YouGov’s Best Buzz 2021 rankings in each individual country and the overall rankings.
Across the region, Shopee e-commerce platform took the number one spot on the ranking, followed by YouTube and Samsung. Shopee is also in the leading position in some Southeast Asian countries, specifically in Vietnam in the field of e-commerce. Lazada appeared in YouGov’s ranking in Southeast Asia, while Tiki made the Vietnam list.
The report shows that Shopee has an important standing in Southeast Asia in 2021. Apart from occupying the number one spot in Asia Pacific, Shopee also took the lead in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore. The platform ranks No. 2 in the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam, however, led in the field of e-commerce.
Lazada ranked second in e-commerce and came in fifth throughout the Asia Pacific region. The platform made the top 10 in Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. Other local e-commerce platforms also appeared in the list of countries including Tiki (Vietnam), Tokopedia (Indonesia), and Flipkart (India).
In the past year, E-commerce platforms had a great influence on consumer behavior as the pandemic persisted. This has caused countries to imposed lockdowns and forced people to shop online.
A report from Google, Temasek and Bain & Company in 2021 mentioned that Vietnam’s digital economy could grow by 31% to $21 billion as a result of the 53% growth of e-commerce from the previous year, and could reach $57 billion by 2025.
In Southeast Asia, the total value of e-commerce goods may exceed $120 billion in 2021, nearly double from 2020, with potential to reach $234 billion by 2025.
Technology companies also appeared on YouGov’s list in different countries, popularly Samsung, Google, YouTube, Facebook, and some brands like Huawei, iPhone, Panasonic, Netflix, etc.
