Thai Google searches uncover changing lifestyles and interests

People in Thailand have learned to adapt to uncertainty and change since the pandemic began, as reflected in their Google searches. In general, Thais adopted digital more and changed consumer behavior, according to a report based on information from Google Trends.

For instance, Google searches in the country for “work from the hotel” surged 1,600%, while cryptocurrency searches jumped 263%, as revealed in Google’s “Year in Search 2021” report. Many are using the internet to find information that will help them make better decisions, according to the report.

Saranee Boonritthongchai, head of marketing at Google Thailand, said Thais are significantly changing certain aspects of their lifestyles, and blending a way of living, shopping, work, finance, and fact-checking.

The report compared the period’s Sept 2019 to Aug 2020 and Sept 2020 to Aug 2021 and offers insights into consumer search behavior, which can be leveraged for business opportunities. Brands and businesses can support consumers through their decision-making journey, she said.

The report also showed that 90% of Thai consumers would purchase products from brands that provide helpful information when they were exploring options. 

According to the report, searches for brand options rose by 30% increase, while those for “what to sell online” increased by 44%. Thai shoppers have also become more interested in mega sale shopping festivals – 6.6, 7.7, 8.8 – searches for which rose by 110%.

Thai shoppers who were surveyed also want free and reliable delivery searches which grew more than 60%. Meanwhile, interest in “see a doctor online” also grew by more than 122%.
